As there is more awareness and research into the Lymphatic System and Lymphatic Diseases (such as Lymphoedema and Lipoedema), machines are becoming available to help improve treatment and self care at home.

While Lymphatic drainage and Decongestive therapy are still the bases of manual therapy, depending on how the client presents, other techniques/machines may be used to ensure best outcome from the treatment.

Before any of the following machines are incorporated into a treatment, permission will be asked from the client.

Cold Laser or LLLT (Low Level Laser Therapy) is a pain free treatment option to help repair tissue and reduce inflammation.

The device is placed on the skin, where it omits low level light.  The tissue is not heated, hence why it is called cold laser.  The light omitted by the laser is absorbed by individual cells and re-energises them to become more active, which helps to break down fibrotic tissue and accelerate healing.

Cold Laser therapy is an effective treatment to allow the body to heal more quickly.  It can be used on clients receiving either Lymphatic or Remedial treatment.

Benefits of Cold Laser

  • Reducing Inflammation
  • Reducing pain
  • Soften scar tissue
  • Accelerate wound healing
  • It is a non-invasive treatment
  • No pain

Lympha Touch

Through negative pressure and high frequency vibration, the LymphaTouch is designed to treat patients faster and more efficiently, ultimately improving rehabilitation. The LymphaTouch has a wide range of treatment application including:

  • Primary and secondary lymphoedema
  • Post-operative swelling and scarring
  • Fascial tightness
  • Pain management

Pneumatic Pump

Compression Pump is a fantastic self care tool to have at home to help manage fluid build up.  The chambers fill with air , giving a Lymphatic Massage like feeling.  The pump is small, so can be packed when travelling.  After a long drive or flight, you can have a Lymphatic Massage at your destination, when swelling can be advanced after the long trip.

The Oapl Compression Pant and Sleeve are available to trial in the clinic, before purchasing.

If you have any lymphatic conditions, it is important to seek advise from a Lymphoedema Practitioner before purchasing a pump.  In particular you must learn and do your opening sequence pre and post pumping.

Lymph Scanner

The LymphScanner is a portable measuring device that can detect the water content in tissue, making it very useful in the detection, monitoring and treatment of lymphoedema.

Kinesiology Tape

When kinesiology tape is applied to an inflamed or swollen area, the lifting motion of the tape creates a space between the top layer of skin and the underlying tissue. This space creates a pressure gradient between this area and the surrounding tissues that allows fluids to move into the lymphatic vessels and be eliminated from the body.  In addition, enhanced muscle activation increases the muscle pump pushing more fluid through the lymphatic vessels.
